Ambitious software developer (m/f/d) for Foundry

Fulltime: freelance or employed

Location: 1 day per week on location in the Netherlands (NL), location there depending on hire; 4 days remote

Due to our growing business for Foundry – an educational software platform – we are looking for extra technical capacity.  About Foundry

The Foundry software platform fills a need to make competency-based education workable and catalyzes transformational learning and teaching. It allows students to learn at their own pace: our cloud-based solution uses real-time data to guide students exactly where and when they need it most and allows teachers to easily manage, assess, track and report progress - allowing more time for mentoring. Foundry is used by schools and districts in the US as well as abroad.

Team Constellation

Since 2015 Anton van Kimmenade, with Ascama BV, has delivered the Chief Architect role for Foundry. Ascama is also a stock owner and Anton is a member of the management team. The other team members are based in the US. Overall, the team consists of experienced, senior members: several members have extensive experience with growing a business and bringing it to the Nasdaq stock exchange.

Your Responsibilities

We recently upgraded our architecture: we now have a very responsive platform with solid mechanisms for scaling. You will contribute to scaling and improving the platform. Your exact responsibilities will depend on your skill set: your skills are the starting point, but time will also be allocated for growing these skills and expanding your role and responsibilities. Together with the Chief Architect you will determine the priorities and work on these.  

 Your Skills

We believe the most important skills are personal skills:

• The ability to see the big picture and slice achievable iterations

• Take risks, make mistakes, correct and learn fast from those

• Be open to learning new techniques.

Regarding technical skills, we are looking for someone with experience in:

• Angular platforms (using typescript) – We have a hybrid base: some equivalent functions need to be moved to Angular, while parts that are in AngularJs need to be upgraded to the latest Angular version.   

• Java/AWS Unix/PostgreSQL database – our servers are java based and run on AWS Unix using Spring with a PostgreSQL database. We use AWS cloud services for our servers.

Language skills:

• Because the rest of the team is based in the US, speaking and writing English is a requirement. Dutch language skills is a nice to have.  

Working conditions

The job is mostly remote, however, to ensure good teamwork and performance you will spend one day a week together with the Chief Architect at a flex desk in the Netherlands – the exact location to be determined with you. You can plan your own work hours, as long as these allow for sufficient communication with the Chief Architect and the team.

Salary: depends on skills, between €3500 - €4500 gross per month with an 8% vacation bonus.
